Hingham’s Julie McConville found the limelight to her liking at Saturday night’s enormously popular MSTCA Twilight Cross Country Invitational. NEW ENGLAND NBON: GIRLS RECAP Mike Miller Jun 19, 2012

Greensboro, NC is a long way from TF Green, Manchester, Logan, and Bradley International Airports, the most likely beginning points for the Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut contingents that headed down to New Balance Nationals to run this weekend. The distance didn’t seem to deter any of them from traveling, competing, and then dominating. For a part of the country that makes up a small fraction of its population, the damage it did was significant. Here are just some of the highlights from those states’ athletes that made the journey and competed in the championship events.

Randall’s Island, NY (June 9) - - With just a shade over 500 meters remaining and the penultimate trip down the homestretch now in sight, the Mansfield High senior, Josh Lampron, had just one thought, “It is time to make the move.” So during a crowded and tightly-bunched field, comprised of 14 of the nation’s top-ranked US high school milers from Washington to Massachusetts and competing at New York’s Icahn Stadium, the site of the 2012 Adidas Grand Prix and Samsung Diamond League Track & Field Tour, Lampron proceeded to execute the race strategy he and long-time Coach, Julie Collins, had called for.

Lampron Leads Mansfield to State Title Jun 5, 2012

Josh Lampron put together a stunning tune up for Saturday’s Dream Mile and more than proved he’s ready for an assault on the 4-minute mark after his record-breaking performance at yesterday evening’s MIAA State Track & Field Championships at Fitchburg State University. Lamron is the epitome of an athlete taking his talents to the next level. The Mansfield senior found the cool temperatures and calm conditions at Elliot Field to his liking as he pushed the pace from the gun in the 800 and drew away from Somerville’s Andre Rolim to break the 37-year-old meet record in 1 minute, 51.99 seconds. The record came an hour after Lampron sat on Marshfield’s Joel Hubbard and then surged into the lead with 300 meters for a stunningly easy 4:07.88 win. Hubbard never faltered in second, smashing his personal best with a 4:09.27. Framingham’s Ben Groleau finished third with a quick 4:14.53.

D2: Sweep success ! May 28, 2012

WHITMAN — It’s a common cliche in many sports: Speed kills. But at yesterday’s Division 2 championship, both the Central Catholic boys and girls teams used their depth to come away with the hard-earned hardware. While Mansfield’s Josh Lampron had the best individual day, setting meet records in both the mile and 800 meters, it was the Red Raiders who got the important points in nearly every event to bring home the team titles. The win was the boys’ first since back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010, while the girls gained their first since 2008, ending Mansfield’s three-year reign atop the division.“Our field events carried us,” said Central boys co-coach Sully Grella. “It’s a numbers game. Our assistant coaches do a great job coaching all the events, and every year we’re scoring in all the events.” (via Boston Herald)

New England Championships: Girls Preview Feb 29, 2012

A bit of gamesmanship is underway by the coaches of prominent teams in New England. The meet rules for the New England Championships state that an athlete can only be entered in four events including relays, and several coaches have their top tier athletes slated for the maximum allowable amount. The fact that an athlete can even qualify in four events is a testament to their tremendous talent, but the likelyhood that it will actually happen is slim.

An entire season came down to the final relay leg at yesterday’s All-State Track Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center, and the result was no clear-cut winner. After thirteen's a tie? Feb 26, 2012

Based on the performance list entering the meet, the Newton North boys were projected to score 24 points.  Even further down the list, Mansfield was projected to only score 14 points.  Both should have finished mid-pack if the performance list had any significant impact on the outcome of the championship.  Thankfully for both teams, seed times mean little.

MIAA All-State Indoor Championships Preview Feb 23, 2012

Every event in a state championship provides excitement and drama, but this year the relays may decide the team title. But don't expect to see the same line-ups from last week. Some additional fresh legs --courtesy of athletes that did not qualify in an individual event-- may help the common man become the hero. We watched it happen on Sunday at the Division 1 Championships, and those same teams remain in the hunt this week.

Division 2 Indoor Championships Highlights Feb 16, 2012

North Attleboro was slowly chipped away at their lead of NDA behind the solid performances of Nicole Sarkis (3rd in the 600m), Samantha Kroll (3rd in the 300m) and Sydney Bennett (3rd in the 55m hurdles).  The end result was a one point win for North Attleboro over NDA, 39 to 40. On the boys’ side, Mansfield and Marshfield traded shots, but the Mansfield sprinters combined for relays that were just too much for Marshfield to overcome.  In the end, Mansfield would create a six point gap to take home another Division 2 Championship.
