Jacob Thomson is good. He's not the absolute best prep harrier in the nation this year, but he's not that far off as shown from the 5th place finish he claimed at this weekend Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships in San Diego, California. The fact that he rose to that point, though, would put him amongst the top three Kentucky preps of all-time by most accounts, but those who have watched him the last four years likely see him as the much more than that. He has revolutionized the sport in the state and brought both attention to his efforts and those that he has drawn to race in the state over the past two years specifically.
KYtrackXC.com is proud to bring you the 2012 Projected Last Time In for the Kentucky State Track Meet. With the current qualifying set as the top two from each region and then the 10 next best times from throughout the seven regions, that last time is very important. Last year there were athletes who missed making it to state by .01 of a second. So the question is where will that cut-off line be?
Example from last year
Class A 110m Hurdles
Projection 17.50
Actual Last Spot 17.58
This region has changed significantly over the past ten years with the movement of Owensboro Catholic to Class A, the split of Greenwood, and the emergence of current #4-ranked Edmonson County.

She finished last.
Dead last.
It wasn’t really close either. She finished 76 seconds behind the second-to-last competitor and over 5000 meters that is a significant distance. It’s more significant when it’s at the Foot Locker National Championships, where distances are covered faster than ever as the country’s best harriers all convene for one race each year to decide a champion. It wasn’t supposed to end this way for Emma Brink, though it never is for any qualifier at Foot Locker, yet in crossing that finish line with the slowest time on the day, Brink may have left an equally important mark on the race for many of her fans and peers.
Emma Brink punches her ticket this morning to the Foot Locker National Championships, placing 5th at the Foot Locker South Regional.
