Whitman-Hanson cross country teams sweep Hingham

A sea of red darted around the Whitman-Hanson Regional High campus twice on Tuesday as the Panthers’ boys and girls cross country teams swept both of their meets with Hingham.

The Whitman-Hanson boys edged Hingham, 26-29, while the Panthers girls prevailed, 22-36. “For awhile there as they were coming in, I actually thought Hingham had us,” said Whitman-Hanson boys coach Matt Vercollone. “I was trying to do the math in my head and it shows that it was a really close race.” Although the girls race didn’t have the drama that the boys race had, it did break a record.

Hingham (5-1) senior Julie McConville broke the 5K course record with a time of 17:36 as she came in 1:47 faster than the next finisher.
