Beyond the Races at the New Balance Grand Prix

So much happens behind the scenes at a meet of this magnitude.  High school athletes get to rub elbows with Olympians, track fans get to be on national TV, and our sport enjoys a much deserved day in the spotlight.

The New Balance Grand Prix experience was everything the athletes and coaches hoped it would be.  For the second year in a row, the Sandwich Track Club brought a youthful exuberance to the charged arena, and led 4,000 people in unified chants that rival a European soccer match.

The Ethiopian contingent was in full force, brimming with national pride as the green, yellow, and red of their national flag draped the shoulders of victorious distance runners.

An American Record was broken by Jenn Shur in the pole vault, and the Newton North athletes were just steps away as they worked on the track.  Carla Forbes and Kayla Prior even had the opportunity to hold the finish line tape as some of the world’s best came barreling down the home stretch.

Thanks to the hard work of Steve Infascelli, James Rooney, and Greg Zopatti, MileSplitMass will be bringing fans a series of candid videos from the meet; including several new Take 3 with Z episodes. This lighthearted look at life beyond the lines of the oval truly shows the passion and enthusiasm these three coaches have for the sport they love.

In this first set of videos we learn what proper wam-up attire is, get Super Bowl picks from the pros, and find out what position David Oliver would play if he was on the Patriots roster.  Enjoy!
