Leading the girls Eastern Division 5 section returners is Seekonk High School's Abigail Tenreiro. With a 2018 5k personal record of 18:38.70, Tenreiro is the only returner from the section to break the 19:00 barrier. With personal bests in the Two Mile of 11:37.43 and the One Mile of 5:27.22, the Seekonk rising Senior will be one of the most threatening runners in the Eastern Division 5 section. Tenreiro's threat does not end at the divisional level, however; she finished 5th in the Division 2 race at the Cross Country MIAA All State Finals last season. The four girls who finished ahead of her all have graduated, therefore, Tenreiro is one of the favorites to take the Massachusetts Cross Country Division 2 title.
In order for Tenreiro to take the Massachusetts' Division 2 Cross Country title, she will have to beat out Sandwich High School's Emma Eastman. Eastman comes in second on our list with a personal record 5k of 19:10.80. While her personal record is a touch over half of a minute behind Tenreiro's, Eastman made huge strides in her 2019 Outdoor Track & Field season. Her Outdoor season was highlighted by a 10th place finish in the One Mile Final at the Massachusetts (MIAA) All-State Outdoor Championship meet where she dropped a 5:09.84. If Eastman can build off of her promising Outdoor Track & Field season, she will surely take the fight to Tenreiro this upcoming Cross Country season.
The other two sub 19:30 5k runners on our Eastern Division 5 returners list, Dover Sherborn Regional High School's Caitlin Britt and Seekonk High School's Hannah Bradbury, will also be looking to fight for the top seat in the division. Britt ran a personal best Indoor One Mile time of 5:29.48 at the MIAA Division 5 Championships, which is only a touch slower than Tenreiro's top One Mile performance. Bradbury has also shown impressive times during the track season with 3:15.33 Indoor 1000m performance and a 2:27.47 Outdoor 800m performance - both of which being personal records for Bradbury. Britt and Bradbury are two to watch out for this upcoming season to see if they will take the fight to Tenreiro and Eastman.
