Patience Pays Off For Donahue

Maggie Donahue has accomplished a lot in her first season of cross country. The Wellesley junior won her race at the Bay State Invitational back in October, finished second at both the divisional states and the All State meet and now she's qualified for the nationals in Oregon. Donahue followed her recent trend of runner-up placements by taking that position on Saturday at the Nike Northeast mee. She finished behind recent New England champion Julia Robitaille with a solid 18:34.6 clocking on a very challenging 5K course. The Red Raider standout was around 20th after the first mile and gradually starting picking off runners the last two miles.

"I was really hoping I could get a qualifying spot. I didn't know if I could," Doanhue said. "The coaches were trying to motivate me and I couldn't have asked for a better team this year. It's been amazing."
