Wakefield Memorial's overall depth proved to be the difference in this one. Eventual second--place finisher Pembroke appeared on its way to a team victory with a 2-3-4 finish by Alex Wengryn (16:13.07), Justin Gaiser (16:13.45) and Christopher Spellman (16:16.85). But the Warriors were able to secure the decision, a 48-61 win, with all five of their runners before Pembroke's fourth. In all, Wakefield had its seven varsity runners cross the line in front of the Titans' fifth.
Finishing in front of Pembroke's talented trio was Wakefield's Matt Greatorex with a winning time of 16:09.01. Greatorex hit the opening mile at around 5:12. He admitted having three Pembroke runners surrounding him and knowing a team title could be on the line inspired him in the closing miles of the race.
"I knew I had to run a fast time for our team to have a chance to win," he said.
