WMass Division 1
GIRLS
Amherst-Pelham's Sophia Jacobs-Townsley appears to have the target on her singlet in this one. The talented junior ran 17:42 on a generous 5K layout at the Brown Northeast Invitational and clocked a solid 19:03.10 on a challenging 3.1-mile course at Thetford Academy at its annual Woods Trail Run, a race she was second behind All-American and defending New England champion Jacqueline Gaughan of Exeter (NH). She recently captured PVIAC Championships where she was timed in 18:11. Northampton's Mary Yount, who was third in that race with a time of 18:51, should be contending for a top position. Among other harriers that should be battling up front are Amherst-Pelham's Julia Hopley and Zada Forde and the Northampton duo of Rosie Ingmann and Emma Yount. As evident by the lead runners in this race, Amherst-Pelham and Northampton are the cream of the crop in this meet with the winner this weekend possibly taking the title by single digits.
