The Pembroke girls entered the 4x400m with a 3.5 point lead on Bishop Feehan and answered the challenge. The set meet record in that event and secured the team win with 64 points.
The Bishop Feehan boys successfully defended their 2010 championship with a 74 to 51 point win over Pembroke.
Pembroke took the top 2 spots in the mile. Wesley Gallagher won the event in 4:20.94, Brendan Adams was second in 4:21.77. Gallagher's time is #6 in the state.
Viviana Hanley (Bishop Feehan) and Kellie Lodge (Hopkinton) run stride for stride in the mile. They pass 800m at 2:33 and Lodge takes over the lead with 500m to go. Hanley answers at the bell and puts a quick 20 meters on Lodge. Hanley's move was enough to hold on for the win in 5:11.61. Lodge was second in 5:15.49.
Jair Crukashank (Nashoba Regional) took the lead in the boy's 600m with 2 laps to go. He opened a small gap and then struggled down the final straight as Matt Jessup (Westwood) was closing quickly. Crukashank's move may have been a little early but his tenacity helped him hold on for the win in 1:22.75. Jessup was second in 1:22.82 and Patrick Brekka of Quabbin was third in 1:23.23.
Alex Stanton of Medford won the 600m in 1:36.09 and the 55m hurdles 8.59. This odd combination truly illustrates what a great athlete she is.
Billy Looney (Bishop Feehan) led the 1000m wire-to-wire. His time of 2:29.99 is #2 in the state and is #7 in the country. Looney also anchored the Bishop Feehan 4x400m team to a win.
Ryan Kelley of Pembroke took the lead of the 2 mile at the gun and looked like he had the race under control. He ran splits of 2:24 for 800m and 4:51 at the mile, and then Dan Gordon of Plymouth North started to close. Gordon took the lead with 2 laps to go and immediately put a 30 meter gap on Kelley. Gordon would go on to win the race in 9:36.17 with Kelley finishing second in 9:47.17.
Camille Blackman (Longmeadow) found herself down 40 meters early in the girls 2 mile. Viviana Hanley of Bishop Feehan had taken the race out on an honest pace and passes the mile mark at 5:38. Blackman showed tremendous patience as she worked for 5 laps to close the gap on Hanley. The two would go by the finish line side-by-side with 2 laps to go and then Blackman took off. She opened a significant gap and was able to hang-on for the win in 11:13.00.
Pembroke and Westwood both ran under the 4x800m meet recored of 8:17.44 set last year by Burlington. Pembroke won the event in 8:08.97 with Westwood finishing second. Their time are #4 and #5 in the state respectively.
Tim McMakin won the shot put in 53'5.25". His mark is #4 in the state.
The girls 4x400m was a burner. Pembroke and Duxbury both ran under the 4:01.75 meet record set last year by Northampton. Pembroke would eventually win behind the 58.5 anchor leg split of Mary Scanlan. Pembroke is now #3 in the sate and Duxbury is #4.
