Joanna Stevens and her twin sister Kathleen will be racing on Saturday in the high school mile at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games with arguably their best opportunities to run under 4:50 in the mile this indoor season. The twins kept rolling on from their breakthrough cross country season to become the #2 and #3 performers all-time in state history with their 10:26 3200s in mid December, while Joanna put together the greatest distance triple ever indoors by a Virginia high school female runner with her 4:53 1600/2:55 1000/10:29 3200 triple at the Liberty High School Invite in mid-January. MileStat.com chatted with the Georgetown recruit Joanna Stevens prior to her trip to Boston with sister Kathleen.
Photos by Victah Sailer of PhotoRun.net Emily Lipari of New York broke open the race at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games high school girls mile race to win with a new meet record time of 4:46, while the Stevens twins followed in with two of the next three places as Millrose mile champion Cory McGee of Mississippi finished in between Blacksburg seniors Joanna Stevens (2nd, 4:50.02) and Kathleen Stevens (4th,4:51.03).
