Day #3 Massachusetts Highlights

  • Josh Lampron is a National Champion!  The Mansfield distance star split 58.36 for the final 400m and put a half step on Jantzen Oshier of California in the final 10 meters.  Oshier surged, but Lampron just edged him at the line.  The finish line photo would have Lampron at 4:05.99 and Oshier at 4:06.00.
  • The Mansfield team of Jen Esposito, Kelsey Ferreira, Paige Grimes, and Kristen McDonagh completely blew away the competitors of Heat #1 in the Championship 4x100m Shuttle Hurdles. Their time of 1:00.90 was 4th overall and is a new Massachusetts state record.
  • Wachusett does it again.  The DMR team of Colin Bennie (3:05.83), Hayden Frechette-McCall (49.12), Alex Jagelsky (1:52.31), and Jeremie Bennie (4:19.44) combined to post a US#6 time of 10:06.03.  Jagelsky was also instrumental in their All-American performance in the 4x800m on Friday where he split 1:51.28.
  • Lincoln-Sudbury finished 7th in the Championship Distance Medley; a race that featured the two fastest times in history.  Their time of 11:54.95 was just off the 11:51.47 they ran indoors.
  • Moira Cronin finished 3rd in the high jump at 5'8.5".  She now holds the two best marks in the state.
  • Nicole Gilbert achieved All-American status with her 6th place finish in the long jump at 18'5.75".
  • Concord Carlisle finished 8th in the girls 4x1 Mile relay with a time of 21:41.22.  They were led by Katie Jessee with a 5:08.62 split.  Weymouth finished 9th in 21:42.66, and was led by Jill Corcoran with a 5:16.77 split.
  • There was a bit of an error in Section #1 of the boys 4x1 Mile.  The officials put the anchor legs on the track one lap early and cut the 3rd leg down to 1200m.  Pembroke finished 6th in that section and was en route to an amazing finishing time with splits of 4:23.64 (Vercollone), 4:25.03 (Adams), 3:16.61 (1200m Kelley), and 4:17.30 (Gallagher).  Lowell and Andover also had impressive races out of Section #2.  They finished 3rd (17:51.47) and 7th (17:55.97) respectively.  The meet management decided to give awards for both races and crowned 12 All-American teams.  Pembroke and Lowell both made the podium and received the honor.
  • Megan McHugh earned All-American status with her 5th place throw of 142'4" in the javelin.  McHugh retains the #1 spot in the state.
  • Kieran Kinnare's second attempt at the steeplechase this year was another success.  Kinnare finished 4th in Section #2 with a US#8 time of 6:09.80.
  • Eve Bishop ran a MA#4 time of 25.17 in Heat #1 of the Emerging Elite 200m.
  • Clayton Russell led the pack through the 400m mark in 55.92 en route to a 4th place finish and MA#4 time of 1:55.30 in Section #1 of the Emerging Elite 800m.
  • Sydney Eberth led Andover to an 8th place finish in the Emerging Elite 4x400m wtih her 56.70 anchor leg split.  Titans TC (Pembroke) finished 11th overall behind the 58.22  anchor leg split of Becky Stoyle.
  • Jen Esposito improved on her MA#2 time by running 60.20 to finish 2nd in Section #5 of the 400m Hurdles.  Alex Stanton had the unfortunate luck of being the first race on the track following an extended rain delay.  Stanton finished 6th in the final section with a time of 60.53.  Earlier in the day, Laurie Femmel won Section #2 in 62.99.
  • Kathy O'Keefe completed a very admirable double.  She finished 13th in the 2000m steeplechase (7:18.04) and 12th in the mile (5:00.47).
  • Brendan Sullivan finished 9th in the pole vault with a mark of 15'3".  He is the only athlete in the state with a mark over 15 feet and holds the Massachusetts state record at 15'7".
