Indoor Track & Field Award-Winners Announced!

SPECIALTY EVENTS

Sprinters of the Year

Phillips Magre, Somerville; Davonte Burnett, Needham

This was the first of the difficult ones to choose. Magre is certainly deserving of the honor, but so is Burnett. Magre was our state and New England champion for 300 meters, posting a PR of 34.24 to win his regional title. He was also the individual winner at the Yale Track Classic where he clocked an indoor best of 48.97. An injury that forced him to miss the final meets of the season, including the All State Finals and the New England's, prevented Burnett from possibly earning this award all to himself. He was our top runner for 55m and 300m, posting state-leading times of  6.34 and 34.16, respectively. Burnett's final meet of the indoor season was the Division 1 state meet where he won both his specialties.

Kyla Hill, Springfield Central; Chloe Alfieri, Bromfield School

Yet another one that was too close to call. Hill, a speedy junior, dominated the 55m dash. She was unbeaten against her MA and regional rivals with impressive wins at the division, All State and New England meets. In all three meets she clocked 7.14, a PR for the event. Hill also came close to breaking 40 seconds for 300m and finished second at divisionals, third at All States and fifth at the NE meet. Her best was 40.53. Alfieri was undefeated for 300m and won individual crowns in the division, All State and New England meets. She ran one of the state's all-time best for the two-lapper at the Div. 5 meet where she broke the tape in 38.95.
