Record Are Made To Be Broken, Right?

Boys' Long Jump

State Record: 24-11, Alex Niemiec, Chicopee Comprehensive, 2013
All State Finals Record: 23-10.5, Greg Ouellette, Wareham, 1965

The near 25-foot state mark by Niemiec a few years ago appears to be safe, and could be one of those state records that last for a long period of time. But the All State Finals' record is certainly one of those we could see broken this year or possibly in 2019. Milton's Smith Charles appears to be the leading candidate to break that record. A couple of years ago, Newton South's Anthony Denitto came an inch from that record with a leap of 23-9.5 at All States. Smith leaped a PR of 23-6.75 to win the Eastern Division 3 meet last year and this past winter had an indoor best of 23-6.25. He's right in the ballpark to eclipse Ouelette's long standing mark, a record that has stood for 53 years!
