Record Are Made To Be Broken, Right?

Boys' Two Mile

State Record: 8:50.82, Chris Barnicle, Newton North, 2004
All State Finals Record: 9:00.2, Alberto Salazar, Wellesley, 1975

Unlike the mile, this is a record that we feel Oosting could break this season. The Spy Ponders' junior broke nine minutes for the first time this indoor season when he clocked 8:57.59 to win the New England title in a solo effort. He finished second to Brodey Hasty at the New Balance Nationals where he crossed the line in 9:01.87. There's a good possibility Oosting can wipe both records from the books, including Salazar's 43-year-old mark. Especially for Barnicle's mark, he will need a high-level meet such as NBN or the Brooks PR Invitational to challenge the record. He should have those opportunities.
