New Balance Grand Prix Junior Mile Boys' Preview

Dalton Hengst, Bishop Shanahan (PA)

Hengst is one of those runners that could contend up front. He was fourth last March in the mile at the New Balance Nationals where he ran an all-time best of 4:08.24, less than a month after another sub 4:09 at the Millrose Games. McDonogh was also the individual winner at last year's Penn Relays Carnival where he was timed in 4:09.99. The recent Bishop Shanahan transfer is enjoying a successful indoor season so far. He won the mile at the VA Showcase last month in 4:13.63 and last week was fourth at Millrose with a 4:12.98 effort. He also is ranked No. 2 in the 1,000m after finishing second to Josh Hoey, our No. 1 seed this weekend, at the VA Showcase where he finished in a best of 2:25.30. It would not surprise us at all if Hengst is among the mix in the late stages of the race.
