Aramburu Saves His Best For Last
We thought that Lucas Aramburu had an outside chance to earn a qualifying spot at the Foot Locker regionals. The Brookline senior was third at the divisional and All State meets this season and always seems to perform best when it matters the most. In one of the highlights of his career, the Brookline runner was a mere five seconds behind Shelgren''s winning effort, securing third place overall and a trip out west. Aramburu utilized a patient approach, holding back in the early miles and picking off his competition in the late stages of the race. Aside from his 15:32 clocking on the generous 5K at the Twilight invitational, Aramburu's 15:37.5 on Saturday was his best of the fall, and it came at the opportune time in the pressured-filled regional meet.
Aramburu couldn't help but smile when he crossed the line.
"It's probably the most legitimate and heartfelt smile I've had in my life," he said.
