This race certainly has potential to be won in the closing stages with the top two contenders being Stoneham's Mari Avola and Machester Essex's Eve Feuerbach. Avola won the Division 2 race this past weekend at the Coaches Invitational where she clocked 18:55. She also captured the Division 2 Open race at the Frank Kelley Invitational in a PR of 18:47.13, an effort that would have placed her second overall in the Championship race. Feuerbach recently went sub-19 at the Cape Ann League Championships and 19:19 at Bay State. Of note, during her freshman year, she was seventh overall in the Division 2 race at the All State Finals where she ran her all-time 5K best of 18:27. There's also Seekonk's Abigail Tenreiro, who was second to Avola at the Coaches where she was timed in 19:15.28. Ursuline Academy, one of the top contenders for team honors, has No. 1 runner Lauren Grela, who could contend with the leaders. She recently captured the Catholic Conference Championships and ran 18:31 at Twilight.
Ursuline, along with Sandwich and Hamilton-Wenham, will be looking to bring home the hardware.
