A Look Back At The 2016 Coaches Invitational

With schools making their way to Wrentham on Saturday for the MSTCA Coaches Invitational, we felt it was a good time to take a look back at what happened during the 2016 event.

Newton North's Andrew Mah, who is one of our top runners this season, dipped under 16 minutes for the first time to win the Division 1 race. Mah was timed in 15:44.7, a comfortable 40 seconds ahead of his closest pursuer.   His time would be the fastest of the day.

Tewksbury's Emily Sessa and her younger sister Rachel would go 1-2 in the Division 2 race. The two siblings were the only girls to clock a time under 19 minutes with their times of 18:42 and 18:53.2, respectively.

What could be classified as a preview of a coming attraction, King Philip's Mike Griffin dominated the Division 1 freshmen race where he was timed in an outstanding time of 9:46.3. Griffin would place second at the Eastern State Championships a week later. On the track, the swift frosh would record a 4:20 best outdoor mile, a time that ranked No. 2 among the nation's top ninth-graders.
