Arlington's Ryan Oosting is competing in the two mile and 5K.
COMPLETE ENTRIES (Updated)
Boys' Distance Events (including relays)
He's built it to the point this season that nothing surprises us whenever he answers the gun. Arlington's super sophomore Ryan Oosting is entered in the two longest events on the track, the 5,000m and the two mile, and we're expecting great things from the gifted tenth-grader. The first event he'll be competing in is the 5K on Friday. With a good portion of top distance runners in Seattle at the Brooks PR Invitational this race appears to be wide open. Judging by what on the entry list, it looks like a time in the low 15-minute range could win this race. Is Oosting capable of doing that fast? Based on his 9:05 two mile from two weeks ago at the State Meet, it certainly doesn't appear to be too far-fetched. Oosting ran a PR of 15:37 at the Eastern State Championships and has improved significantly since that performance. Two days after competing in the 5K, the Arlington standout will toe the line for the deuce, another event that will be minus some top guns who opted for the Brooks PR meet. A sub 9-minute clocking, something he is certainly capable of, could win this race on Sunday.
With the foursome of Samuel Gilman (4:24 best), Jamieson Mazzola (4:29), Thomas Weiss (4:25) and Benjamin Matejka (4:16), Wellesley will be sending a squad capable of clocking sub 18 minutes in the 4xMile Relay.
Marshfield will be send a team with the ability of a time in the 10:20 range for the DMR with sub two-minute 800m runners Mike Maglio and James Condon, 50-second 400m gut Jimmy Jordan and 4;19 miler Derek Homes.
