NBNO Preview: Girls' Championship Jumping Events

Girls' Championship Jumping Events

The Bay State area will feature four athletes in the jumping events, three of which will compete in the high jump. This event will include three of the top four leapers in the state. Wellesley's Julia Jordahl-Henry is our top seed heading to North Carolina and is fresh off her New England title where she had a personal-best of 5 feet, 7 inches. At the New England meet, Jordahl-Henry indicated that she and her club coach we're able to recognize a flaw in her approach to the bar that had prevented her from reaching her full potential in the vertical leap at the beginning of the season. With her new found confidence from her PR performance this past weekend, could we see another best achieved against the nation's elite? Of note, last year a height of 5-8 earned an All-American top-six finish. Also in the field are two other athletes that have cleared 5-6 this season - Gloucester's Sierra Rudolph and Milton's Jessy Iwuala. Rudolph achieved her best at the Northeast Conference Championships on May 21. Iwuala was a state runner-up with her current best and placed second to Jordahl-Henry at the New England's with a leap of 5-5.

Recent New England champion Shraeya Srinvasan is our lone entry in the triple jump, an event she ranks No. 16 in the country with her PB of 40-8.5 from the Hockomock League Championships. She also went 40-plus at the New England's with her winning distance of 40-0.25.  Srinvasan has consistently been in the high 39- low 40-foot range this season, and we don't expect that will change down in NC. Two of the top-six finishers from last year have graduated and Worcester Tech's Adja Sackor, who was fifth in 2016, is not entered. With a leap close to what she has already done, Srinvasan could earn All-American status.
