Massachusetts' athletes made numerous trips to the victory stand on Saturday at the New England Championships.
In his typical, front-running style in the 600-meter run, Burncoat's Rodney Agyare-May took the pace out hard and never let up, breaking his own New England record and nation No. 1 with a winning 1 minute, 18.31 seconds.
Norton's Brooke-Lynn Williams won her second straight 55m crown, dipping under seven seconds for the first time this season with a time of 6.94 (US #6). Williams beat a talented field that also included Bloomfield (CT) senior Cassidy Palmer, who was second in 7.10.
It was a battle of Bay State sophomores in the girls' 300m as Oakmont's Alyssa Madden edged Medway's Ava Vasile with a winning time of 39.72 to Vasile's 39.84 effort.
Milton's Smith Charles leaped a personal best of 23 feet, 2 inches to capture the long jump. Charles also placed third in a loaded 55m race, tying his best of 6.40.
In the girls' high jump, top-seeded Zoe Dainton won her first New England title with a height of 5-7. Worcester's Tech's Adja Sackor won the long jump with a leap of 18-10.
A week after his upset mile victory at the All-State Meet, St. John's Tristan Shelgren added a New England title on Saturday. Shelgren won a tight race with a 4:17.55 clocking.
Old Rochester's Danny Renwick and St. John's Nikolas Reardon went 2-3 in the high jump with both clearing 6-7, the same height by Central's Ausgustus Karweh, who was fourth.
Northampton's Nikolas Smith clocked an all-time best of 34.45 to finish second in the 300m dash. He was also fifth in the 55m at 6.54.
The Brighton boys placed second in the 4x200m relay with an all-time best of 1:29.79. Winning the race was Central (RI) with a near meet record of 1:29.62.
St. John's and Lowell both broke eight minutes in the 4x800m. St. John's finished second with a time of 7:58.19. Lowell was third at 7:58.11. Wakefield was fourth, just missing a 'sub-8' with a time of 8:00.31.
