(The Girls 2015 D2 All-State Meet)
Colette O'Leary SR Milton HS
As we approach the start of the 2016 season, the path appears to be quite clear for another repeat victory by Colette O'Leary. After taking the D4 title last season, O'Leary went on to finish 4th at the All-State meet and 22nd place at the NXN Northeast Regional meet. During the track seasons, Collette really got down to business in her mid-distance events and clocked in new PRs of 2:11.7, 2:54.2, and5:07. On top of being her senior year, Colette will be looking to make a big championship season run with her Milton squad and prove they are one of the best teams in the region.
Bridget Mitchell JR Milton HS
Perhaps the only person capable of stopping Colette O'Leary from a repeat victory would be fellow Milton runner, Bridget Mitchell. The two were pretty inseparable last fall, as Mitchell took 3rd (5 seconds behind O'Leary) at Eastern MA Champs, finished 3rd at the All-State Meet (same time as O'Leary), and was 22nd at NXN Northeast Regionals (1 second ahead of O'Leary). While O'Leary might have a little quicker turnover, Mitchell is definitely stronger than her teammate in the mile and up. During her sophomore track campaign, Bridgett lowered her mile PR to 4:58.9 and clocked in a new two-mile PR of 10:54.6. As we near the start of the season, we feel that Mitchell and Collette O'Leary will be not only be the best 1-2 punch in the state, but the whole region.
Sarah Tully SR Wayland HS
One of only a few to break up the duo from Milton, Sarah Tully will be looking to do the same this coming season. The Wayland senior has demonstrated steadfast progression over the years, as she took 5th at Eastern MA Champs in 2013, 3rd in 2014, and was runner-up last year. Despite working her way up the ladder, Tully won't be handed the title this fall. She is a bit behind her competition in terms of track PRs and speed, but she has top-notch veteran experience and that is not something you can practice. If Tully is healthy and had a strong summer, she will once again be vying for the top spot in the small school division.
Christina Jones JR Gloucester HS
Hoping to find herself a spot in the front pack, Christina Jones will have her hands full with the top notch small school competition. Finishing a bit off the girls from Milton and Tully of Wayland at the 2015 Eastern MA Champs race, Jones took 6th overall running 19:21. A week later in Westfield, Christina jumped up from her 2015 finish and found herself in the Top 20 (18th place) with a time of 18:56. On the oval, Jones primarily focused on the 2 Mile and by the end of spring she had brought her previous best of 11:53 down to 11:36. Christina certainly has the potential be a figure in the lead pack this season, but she'll need to bring her A game every race out and not be afraid to take a few risks.
Elise O'Leary SO Milton HS
Making up the third piece of a very powerful Milton Triumverate, Elise O'Leary is already a well known name as a rising sophomore. Trying to keep up with her older sister and Bridget won't be too hard, as Elise took 5th last year at Eastern MA Champs and was 16th at the All-State Meet. A strong force on the cross county course, Elise also has no issues ratcheting it down and flying in the mid-distance events. Over the course of indoor and outdoor, O'Leary ran 56.7 in the 400, 64.5 in the 400H, 1:34.8 in the 600, and 2:15.8 in the 800. Given that type of speed, we wouldn't want to be in range of O'Leary during the final homestretch!
