Many Massachusetts T & F alumni opened their respective seasons this weekend at the BU Indoor Opener. It was a low-key but high intensity meet that saw impressive and
promising performances from former state champions and star athletes, now
attending schools such as Northeastern, Harvard, Dartmouth and BU.
In perhaps the most exciting alumni-heavy race of the day, the 60-meter hurdles
saw four former Massachusetts state champions in the finals, with
Northeastern’s Jordan Samuels (formerly of BC High) adjusting to the new 42’
inch height brilliantly, winning by a tenth of a second at 8.19. In third
place, in preparation for an eventual home in the multis, Harvard’s Andrew
Bolze (Hingham) showed his versatility by covering the distance in 8.38.
Bolze, far from a hurdle specialist, was the Massachusetts titlist in the
300m-dash and the long jump in 2014. In sixth and seventh place, Dartmouth’s
Ben Collelo (Lincoln-Sudbury) and Northeastern’s Nick Fofana (Newton North)
