THEN and NOW: Art Dulong ran from Randolph into history

Art Dulong spent some of his early years on the run – in the name of competition. He devoted much of his adult life to coaching, teaching and serving as a high school principal – all in the name of education. There’s another role he fills lovingly – all in the name of grandparenting. He’s come a long distance – in many ways – from runner to grandfather. “It’s like the blink of an eye,” Dulong said. “It seems like it was just yesterday.”Ah, yes, all the yesterdays in his running shoes. The former Randolph High School and College of the Holy Cross track star left a legacy as one of the premier long-distance runners in Massachusetts athletic history. Yet that was not part of the original game plan. He had envisioned himself first as a baseball player.
