Boys Division 2
There is only one other Division that can say they are stronger and deeper and that is Division 1. This should be a very competitive and fun race to watch come Saturday morning at Wrentham. Unlike Division 3 there is not a clear individual favorite going into the meet which could lead to a large pack in the early part of the race. The top pack should include Joshua Kerber (LS), Dan Romano (Mansfield), Adrian Amaya (Needham), Thomas D'Anieri (Wellesley), Quinn Cooney (Chelmsford), PJ Garmon (Billerica), Mike Mullaney (NQ), Martin Conrad (NA), Harry Kent (Masco), Matt Meehan (Marshfield), Mike Duggan (Mansfield), Ben MacDonald (LS), and Mike Tautiva (Marshfield). In the end, I think it comes down to D'Anieri, Romano, Kerber, and Cooney with Romano edging out the field.
In the team battle there are several teams vying for 4 spots, since the wild card will most likely come from Division 1. The top contenders are Mansfield, Needham, Lincoln-Sudbury, Wellesley, North Andover, Chelmsford, and Marshfield. With so many teams fighting for only 4 spots, some very deserving teams will be staying home next week. I think Mansfield is too strong right now, taking the title with their top 5 all under 16:45. Needham, Lincoln-Sudbury, and North Andover all find away to make the trip to Central Mass. With that said, I would not be surprised if a quiet Chelmsford team makes some noise when it counts.
Girls Division 2
The Division 2 Girls Race will be worth much more than the 5 dollar price of admission. Needham and Lincoln Sudbury will have a much anticipated rematch from last year Divisional Meet. Last year Lincoln Sudbury won a 5 point narrow victory over Needham, but this season Needham is looking stronger than ever. Both teams are mirror images of each other from top to bottom, this one will come down to the last finish loop at Wrentham to decide our Champion. Let's not forget about Beverly High School, they moved up from Division 3 and recently battled Peabody to the wire in the Northeast Conference Championships. Other teams to watch are Wellesley, Woburn, and Mansfield as they try to grab the final ticket to the "Chair City".
The Individual race may be as interesting as the team battle. Margie Cullen (Needham) has the fastest time going into the meet, but she will have to contend with Sydney Clary (Lincoln Sudbury). This is another great rematch from 2012, as Cullen bettered Clary by 6 seconds. There will not be much room between these two and the talented pack trying to chase them down. Sarah Lagan (Natick), Morgane Butler (Lincoln Sudbury), Sarah Armstrong (Needham), and Nicole Demars of Beverly.
