WESTFIELD — Powered by its “Big Four,” the Newton North boys’ track team captured the MIAA All-State title Saturday at Westfield State University.
“Ryan Lucken finished first in the 400 meters, Carl Whitham took second in the shot put, Gabe Montague second in the 800, and David Oluwadara second in the triple jump, so they all came through and did what we hoped they would,” said coach Jim Blackburn.
The Tigers finished with 48¾ points, dominating the rest of the field. Lincoln-Sudbury took second with 28 points while Newton South finished with 27.
In addition to the Big Four’s performance, the Tigers took second in the 4 x 400 relay behind Acton-Boxboro. The Colonials finished in 3:22.04, a tad faster than Newton North’s 3:22.48.
