As Weymouth High girls track and field coach Mike Miller observed, “In meets like this, kids either rise to the challenge or they tense up.”
It was the former for the Wildcats on Wednesday as they snagged a share of the Bay State Conference Carey Division crown by tying mighty Newton North, 68-68, at home.
Both teams finished the regular season at 6-0-1.It was Weymouth’s first outdoor track title, not to mention the first time the Wildcats hadn’t lost to Newton North in their 15 years in the Bay State Conference.
“We don’t mind sharing it,” Miller quipped. “It’s a big accomplishment,” said senior Jen Kimball, who won two events and finished second in two others. “It’s an awesome feeling, finally at least tying Newton North.
