Katie Knox : Notre Dame Academy- Worcester
I am truly blessed to have had the opportunity to coach Katie Knox. Katie is the straw that stirs the drink. She made everything that Notre Dame Academy has accomplished in the past few years possible. Katie always worked hard, but managed to have fun while doing so. More importantly, she is just a genuinely good person. I could not have asked for a more ideal role model for our younger athletes. She was always willing to put the team first; even if that meant doubling in some crazy events. There is no question in my mind that she is going to excel at the next level. I can't wait to see where her running career will take her. Thank you, Katie, for everything you have given to our program. What do you enjoy doing outside of your running?
I enjoy reading and hanging out with my friends. I also like to play soccer or any sport that  involves being outside.
What are you going to miss most about your high school running career?
I am going to miss my teammates. I have made good friends through running and I will miss seeing them everyday. I will also miss being on the same team as my sister Emily. I really enjoyed being captain this year and I am going to miss watching all my teammates develop. I became close friends with many of the underclassmen and I am going to miss them so much next year.
What was your most memorable race?
My most memorable race was the all state meet this spring. Since it was my last meet I wanted to enjoy it and not get too nervous. I also PR'd in the 800 in the 4 by 8 so that was really exciting. Since this was one of my last races with my teammates we made shirts before the meet and just made sure that we had a lot of fun. Our 4 by 8 team was also lucky enough to go to nationals this year to run in the emerging elite race. The whole experience of going to nationals was a lot of fun and memorable. I got to spend five days with the girls on my team(one of them is my sister) and we had so much fun just being together.
Out of all your high school running accomplishments, what stands out the most?
When I started cross country my junior year I was really excited that I made it to all states. Going into the season I had no idea I would be able to do that. It showed what great improvements I can have if I try hard. This got me much more interested in running and motivated me to try even harder.
What was the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The most difficult obstacle I had to overcome would probably be psyching myself out before races. Before races I would often get so nervous and just think everyone else was so much better than me. I had to tell myself to relax and just have fun. My coaches did a great job helping me do this.
Do you have any advice for younger runners?
I would tell younger runners not to give up. Running is hard, but if you stick with it it will pay off. I would also tell them not to get too frustrated and always have fun. If you don't remember that running is for fun it can get overwhelming and you won't be able to reach your full potential.
If you were to change anything about your high school running career.....what would you change?
I wouldn't change anything. I am happy with how far I have come since freshmen year.
What are your college plans?
I am going to Univeristy of Rochester. I plan on majoring in Biomedical engineering, and I will run on their cross country and track teams.
Who would you like to say thank you to?
I would like to thank my mom and my dad for always being supportive and driving me to practices or meets. I would also like to thank my coaches. They have always been so supportive and helped me get relaxed when I got really nervous before races. My teammates have been great and I want to thank them for making practices so much fun. I will miss my team so much next year and I hope I will be able to come back and visit.
