Eastern Massachusetts Girls' Division 2
In terms of individually in this division, we could experience a little bit of deja vu at the state level. At the Division 2 championship meet, the top four finishers were sophomores and the sixth- and seventh-place finishers were juniors. We know the No. 1 spot should be secured with All-American and returning champion Grace Connolly back this fall. Last year, Connolly navigated the terrain at the Gardner Municipal Golf Course in a fast time of 17:46.03, more than a minute ahead of runner-up Jillian Callahan (18:56.21) of Plymouth South. Beverly's Ashley Foley and Lincoln Sudbury's Sophi Defreitas, who took the 3-4 positions at the Eastern States, could be battling again for those placements.
Look for Wellesley, a team that has five of its varsity harriers back this season, and Billerica Memorial, a squad that had three rising freshmen among its scoring runners, to be battling for the team crown in mid November. There's also newcomer Concord-Carlisle, third in Div. 3 last fall, that could make things interesting up front.
