Sometimes the best stories happen quietly in the background. That is definitely the case for the Norton 4x50y Shuttle Hurdle team of Ben Donovan, Ramzi Bechara, James Sicard, and Ryan Lapadula who set the Division 4 record in that event two weeks ago....or so they thought.

Add Woburn’s Mike McAdams to the short list of tracksters who perform best in pressure-cooking situations. McAdams came up big for the Tanners in the meet’s finale, clocking a sterling 50.8 leg to edge Woburn past Algonquin for the team title in front of a frenzied Reggie Lewis Center crowd. The Tanners finished with 41 points to Alonquin’s 39, winning in 3:29.08. Algonquin was a step back in 3:29.19.
Norwell took full advantage of training outside on the track in December thanks to the unseasonably warm weather and a complete lack of snow. Relay races have been good to the Newburyport boys track team this season. The undefeated Clippers (6-0) won two separate meets — against Triton and Masconomet — on the final event, the 4x400 relay.With a deep roster that includes few state-champion contenders, relays suit the balanced Clippers.
