Meet Information

Exciting meet! This kind of meet is what makes cross country dual meets worth running. Acton-Boxborough and Newton South looked like mirrors of each other and viewing from a distance all of the blue uniforms were hard to tell apart. Up close these two teams were racing even the entire way. In the ebbs and flows of a meet the score is likely to change a bit. But this race held constant from the half way point on with some promise of position change that did not come to pass. It was a compelling meet from start to finish.

Nara park is a 3 loop course in which you can see a lot of the race and it started out as one big pack through about 800 meters with all 18 girls bunched at a solid pace, but not a super fast start. At about 1200 meters Christine Davis and Anna Rhatigan took off and by the mile gaps were formed throughout the entire field. Christine took off like a girl on a mission and ran a very controlled race to break the course record. She was in control and looked strong throughout the race. Anna Rhatigan ran a solid 2nd place the rest of the way. After that Sierra Zambarano opened a lead over the Newton South 2nd and 3rd runners Anna Laurence and Lucrecia Aguilar. At times Laurence and Aguilar seemed to be making up ground, but in the end Sierra finished well and the 1,3 finish was too much for Newton South as AB won the 1st, 2nd and 4th positions and NS won the 3rd and 5th positions. The difference in the meet was 6 seconds at the #2 position so it was a pretty close meet. At the 4th position there was a 16 second gap. These two teams look to be very close going into the DCL championship, E. Ma. D. I championship and hopefully for both the All State meet. That kind of competition is great for the kids and great for the spectators.

On the plus side the 1-5 gap in narrowing for both teams which is good news heading into the post season. The Newton South 1-5 spread last week against LS was 1:39 and today it was 1:11. Acton-Boxborough's top 5 has closed the 1-5 gap they had at Ocean State by over a minute so both teams can take away the fact that they have improved their team running from this race. Both front runners ran very fast races so this 1-5 split is becoming more meaningful to our future outlooks.

Highlights: Christine Davis set a new Nara Park course record.
