Jim Hogan admits there have been – and will continue to be – “growing pains,” but he thinks it’s worth it. The Quincy High boys and girls cross country teams have been blazing their own trail this fall after being joined at the hip with North Quincy for several seasons, first as a true co-op program, then as a de-facto one. Quincy’s first-year results aren’t eye-opening – the girls are 1-3 and the boys are 0-4 – and the rosters aren’t huge (12 runners for the girls, six for the boys). But you have to start somewhere. “I just want them to start identifying as Quincy High,” said Hogan, an assistant on the former Quincy/NQ combo squad who has taken over the Presidents-only program. “It’s great that they have friends on North Quincy, and they can cheer for them, but we’re separate teams now ... The kids have adjusted to it.”
