St. John's Powered by Green Machine

SHREWSBURY —  Jonathan Green admits he's not strongest guy in the world or the fastest, but the St. John's High senior co-captain has proved he's not only one of the elite runners in the state, but in the nation.  Green, 17, who enters this season as the reigning Central Mass. Division 1 and All-State cross-country champion, also helped Massachusetts to a team title at the Foot Locker Regionals in Kings Park, N.Y., before finishing 22nd (15:06, 3.1 miles) at the nationals in San Diego. “He ran a really intelligent race (at All-States),” said Pioneers coach Raul Laborde, who has been guiding the St. John's program since 1990. “He was in the back of the lead pack after the (first) mile. With a half-mile to go — somewhere in the woods — that's when he made his move and pulled away from the lead pack.”
