Yale Highlights: Huge DMR Races on Friday

Friday Highlights

  • The DMR was king on Friday with eight teams entering the US top ten.  The Tatnall (DE) girls posted a US#2 time of 11:44.02 to lead a very talented field of challengers.  La Salle Academy (RI) finished second with a US#3 time of 11:53.36, and was followed closely by Saratoga Springs (NY) in 11:55.14 (US#4).  Academy of the Holy Names (NY) also cracked the national top five with their 12:06.57 fourth place finish.

  • The boys DMR was just as exciting and contributed an equal number of performances to the national rankings.  Marshfield (MA) is now US#1 after winning the event in 10:17.40.  Joel Hubbard anchored that squad with a 4:14 split in the mile.  Shaker (NY) finished second in 10:21.54 (US#3), and Port Jefferson (NY) was third (10:22.78 / US#4).

  • Staples (CT) won a very tight 4x800m race in 8:07.22.  Their time is US#16 and was just enough to hold off Connecticut rival Norwich Free Academy (8:07.31).

  • Precious Holmes does it again.  The Hillhouse (CT) junior scorched the field with a US#2 time of 38.84 to win the 300m.  Rayanna Relerford of Bloomfield (CT) was second at 41.11 and Sherise Truman of Hartford (CT) was third (41.50).  Hillhouse also dominated the 4x800m relay with a US#10 time of 9:31.32. 

  • Joe Velez of Classical High School (RI) was just slightly off his US#1 mark of 76-11.75.  He won the event at 73’5.5”; collecting his third win of the season with a throw over 70 feet.  On the girls’ side, Maggie Dufault (Pilgrim High School, RI) won her event with a US#2 toss of 50’4”.
