Mike Cyphers continues to lead New England in the Pole Vault after his 15'0" clearance at Dartmouth.
If it seems like Precious Holmes is mentioned in the New England rankings each week, you are right. The Hillhouse (CT) junior continued her increasingly impressive streak with a US#2 time in the 300m (39.09), and a US#1 time in the 600m (1:32.61) at the SCC Coaches Invitational. Both marks are also new state records. Sarah Gillespie (Northwest Catholic, CT) also had a banner day at the SCC Coaches Invitational. She ran a US#3 time in the 1000m (2:55.11) ; leading New England in that event, and the 1600m (5:07.00). Kaylynn Pitts (Woonsocket, RI) and Adrienne Thornton (O’Bryant, MA) were not left out of the record breaking action this week at the East Coast Championships. Pitts soared to a Rhode Island state record with a US#5 jump of 39’5” in the triple jump, while Thornton improved her Massachusetts state record in the weight throw to 51’8.75. Thornton's mark is also the #1 throw in the country this season. The boys jumps experienced some shuffling atop the rankings. Ryan Rei of Cumberland (RI) now leads the triple jump after posting a NE#1 mark of 45’8.5” at the East Coast Championship; Ben Shaw (South Kingstown, RI) took over the long jump top spot with his 21’11.25 leap at the Southern Division Dual Meet; and Adam Couitt (Somerset, MA) regained the high jump lead with his 6’8” clearance at a dual meet last Thursday. Other new leading marks for the week include Cherraine Davis (Southington, CT) with her US#11 throw of 41’2.25” in the shot put; Narragansett High School (MA) with their MSTCA Division 4 Relay record in the girls 4x800m (9:35.40); and Marshfield with their 8:13.87 in the boys 4x800m at the MSTCA Division 2 Relays. |
