Running Down a Dream

On November 13, 2010 Dennis-Yarmouth woke up in a cold sweat; awakened by the nightmare that showed them missing the state championships by one spot and 9 seconds.  The nightmare may have been figurative, but the scenario was very real.  After a disappointing performance at the EMass Championships, this young group of dedicated athletes realized they would be watching the rest of the post season from the sidelines.

But dreams don’t die easily at this seaside school, and one major mishap will not deter the Dolphins.  Coach Hoar, the eternally optimistic captain of the ship, has rallied his crew and set a new course for the post season.  The nightmare still haunts them, but the team has found a way to turn that memory into motivation.  This humble group from the Cape takes nothing for granted, and 2011 has brought a unified voice to the Dolphin’s program.  Making the state meet is the goal, and the dream is once again within reach.

A special thank you goes out to the Dennis-Yarmouth coaches and athletes for allowing MileSplitMass to continue the Workout of the Week series.  D-Y is a shining example of the positive impact that a character driven program can have on student-athletes.

Enjoy the third installment of Workout of the Week.
