Highlights
- Catherine Stack's individual win helped the Norwell girls cross country score their 100th straight dual-meet victory. Norwell beat Abington 15-50, extending the streak that dates back to 1996.
- Ben Groleau of Framingham took the win at the 2.76 mile Larz Anderson park, but Brookline beat Framingham 21-38, and Natick 19-38. Chernet Sisay and Mark Perry did not race.
- The Hockomock showdown between Chris Allen and Josh Lampron happened, but it was not the fireworks we expected. Still nursing a hamstring injury, Lampron (17:25) marked King Philip's second man and secured the necessary team points for the win (24-37). Allen had a large gap on the field and finished the 5,000 meter course at Mansfield in 16:43. Results
- Shrewsbury and Wachusett came down to the wire with Anni Krumpoch picking-up seventh place and securing the 1 point win for Shrewsbury. Wachusett's Colleen Sands won the meet in 22:05 but it wasn't enough as Mountaineers fell 28-29.
- Newton South hosted Concord-Carlisle and Lincoln-Sudbury with all three teams coming in ranked top 15 in the state (LS #3, NS #7, CC #15 MSTCA) and the meet followed that script. In addition, all three of these teams came into this meet undefeated within the DCL. Each executed fast team races and the order of the rankings coming in held in the scoring. Anna Rhatigan of Newton South remains undefeated in the DCL with a 17:48 win over the 2.95 mile course on the Newton South campus. Rhatigan and Marika Crowe of Lincoln-Sudbury ran most of the race side-by-side and Rhatigan only secured the win in the last 100 meters. Crowe finished second in a very fast 17:53. - The Dennis-Yarmouth trio of Sean Nee (14:45), Colin Merrill (14:45), and Keith Bernatchez (14:48) would take the top 3 spots in their dual meet against Barnstable and mathematically seal the win. D-Y needed the sweep because Barnstable took the next six spots for a final score of 27-30.
- Ryan Cooney of Andover set a new course record of 15:42 for the 3.06 mile loop at Lawrence. MA #10 Andover got the 24-33 win over Chelmsford, and swept Lawrence (15-50).
- It was reported by Taunton Head Coach Wyatt Clifford that Andrew Doherty has suffered a hairline stress fracture in his back and will be out for 6-8 weeks. The sophomore star made headlines last spring when he finished 5th in the Freshman Mile at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in a very swift 4:28.60. The injury essentially ends his 2010 cross country season, but we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to his return to prominence on the track.
