Massachusetts Highlights

  • Carla Forbes crushed the field in the triple jump to win the event with a state record mark of 42'1.5".  She entered the event with a seed mark of 12.09m (39'8") and then proceeded to launch six jumps over 40 feet.  Forbes won the event by 10" and now has the top wind-legal mark in the country.  On Tuesday, Forbes finished 4th in the long jump at 18'7.75" and now has two qualifying marks for the IAAF World Youth Championships. Although the selection process to make the USA team is a bit ambiguous (outlined below), Forbes already surpassed the IAAF Qualifying standard and has been chosen to compete at the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships on July 10th in Lille, France.
  • Jen Esposito of Mansfield ran a personal best time of 60.17 in the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles on Tuesday.  In the finals on Wednesday, Esposito posted another sub 61 second time, finishing 5th overall in 60.87.

USATF.org - USA Track & Field (USATF) will field a partial team to represent the United States at the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships (the “Team”). The team size will be determined by USATF in its sole discretion, but will include no more than 40 athletes.  In addition to the order of finish at the Trials, the Selection Committee will consider fitness, injuries, conditioning, projected ability to finish in the top 8 at the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships, and any other factors the Committee deems relevant or instructive.
