If you want to win a dual meet in the Bay State League it helps to have an athlete that can score in four events. Wellesley is fortunate enough to have such an athlete. In their meet against Braintree, Karla Ganley won the 400M (61.4); won the 100M Hurdles (15.1); won the High Jump (5'0"); and won the Triple Jump (33'5.5"). Her 20 points helped secure a 10 point win for the Raiders.
Newton North also has an athlete that can score in four events. In fact, they might have two. In their 42 point win over Milton, Isaiah Penn won the 400M (52.3); won the Long Jump (19'2.5"); anchored the winning 4x400M Relay; and was third in the Triple Jump. Having an athlete of that caliber is a luxury that Newton North would like to enjoy for many years to come, and thankfully, they have Nick Fofana to step-in for Penn when he graduates later this year. Fofana, who is only a freshman, won the 110M Hurdles (16.7), won the 400M Hurdles (65.5), and won the Javelin (121’6”). He has also cleared 6’0” in the high jump this year and I’m sure we will see him win that event too at some point this season.
