There is no shortage of national caliber talent in the junior class. In fact, the group is so impressive that 46 of the athletes listed below ended the season ranked in the top 50 nationally in their respective events. It is not surprising to see juniors atop the state rankings, but what is surprising, is the dominance this group displayed at the state level. The familiar names span every event, and many have been grabbing headlines for weeks. It would take a month long series to thoroughly discuss the accolades of Rebecca Robinson, Josh Lampron, Vanessa Clerveaux, Jen Esposito, Marika Crowe, Kendal Knous, and Swardic Mayanja.
The development of national level talent has had a tremendous impact on the overall depth of several events in Massachusetts. The 600M and 1000M are prime examples of events where the quality of the entire field has improved because the state’s top juniors are forcing the pace early. This year, an athlete had to run a MileSplit National Elite time just to be ranked in the top 8 of the junior class.
Success changes your perspective, and for this group, it's simply not good enough to just win races. The juniors launched an assault on the record books and it looks like that trend will continue for another year.
