Week #7 Summary
The week started with an incredibly fast dual meet at BU and ended with a new US#1 in the DMR at the Yale Track Classic. The common thread in both events……Lincoln-Sudbury. At Yale, the Lincoln-Sudbury team of Madison Acton, Marika Crowe, Emily Rudder, and Andrea Keklak set a new US#1 time in the DMR of 11:51.47. They ran splits of 3:38.4, 63.3, 2:20.5, and 4.49.3 to win the event against national powers Glastonbury, CT and Cornwall NY. Keklak established herself as one of the best female distance runners in the nation as she successfully battled Aisling Cuffe (the 2 time Foot Locker National Cross Country Champion) and Lindsey Crevoiserat (the current national leader in the mile at 4:49.53).
Lowell also made the trip to New Haven, CT with a select group of distance runners. Their 4x800m team ran a respectable 8:28.33, but it was in the Championship Mile where they really shined. Mike Giardina (4:20.31) finished second, followed by Patrick Coppinger (4:28.45), Padraic Donovan (4:33.01), Nathan McCarthy (4:35.78), Alex Andujar (4:35.39), and Mike Gendron (4:42.74). Their combined times would make for one impressive 4xMile team, and they would still have an alternate!
To wrap-up Yale, Vanessa Clerveaux (Brockton) won the semi-finals and finals of the 55m hurdles in 8.38 and 8.29 respectively. She is currently #2 in the state behind Nicole Genard of Sommerville who ran 8.21 at the Dartmouth Relays.
In keeping with the Lincoln-Sudbury theme, Andrea Keklak showed tremendous range by running 11:23.16 in the 2 mile at the Dual County League Meet #4. This isn’t really a surprise considering her cross country credentials, but she is now ranked in the top 5 in the state in every distance from 600m on up. The one exception is the 1000m because she has yet to run one in a major competition. I’m sure she would do just fine in that event too.
Rebecca Robinson began her week on Monday by winning the 300m (38.96) and 55m (7.20) at the Dual County League Meet. Then, five days later, she posted splits of 24.7 for 200m and 55.5 for 400m at the Division 2 State Relays. She is such a dominate athlete that she rarely has the opportunity to chase others in a race. The relay format provided that opportunity and it was impressive to watch.
The Central Catholic girls and the Mansfield boys made winning look easy this past weekend. Both teams won championships at the State Division 2 relays and their margin of victory was twice that of the #2 and #3 teams combined. Central Catholic scored in every event, and Mansfield set 2 meet records (4x200m and Sprint Medley) along the way. The Mansfield sprint medley time of 3:34.42 is the new US#1.
The Division 4 State Relays came down to the 4x400m on the girl’s side. The Bromfield girls positioned themselves to be in contention for the team title going into the final event and increased their odds by having 2 teams in the fastest section. The end result was a 4x400m and team win for the Trojans. In an impressive show of depth, the Bromfield “B” team was 6th and they had a combined average of 65 seconds for all 8 runners.
