Week #3 Summary
The holiday break and a lack of invitationals resulted in little change in the state rankings, but dual meets and distance runners provided some very exciting moments in week #3 of the indoor season. One dual meet was so close that the final outcome rested in the hands of a high jumper and a relay team. Although you can never attribute a team win to one individual, Leah Potter (Lincoln-Sudbury) certainly played a major role in positioning her team for the win. Tied with Savanna Craib (Acton-Boxborough) at 5’2” in the high jump, Potter unleashed a PR jump of 5’4” to bring the Lincoln-Sudbury point total within striking distance of Acton-Boxborough entering the 4x400m relay.
Lincoln-Sudbury always feels very comfortable when a meet comes down to the 4x400, especially when one of the state’s finest distance runners is in that rotation. After an “easy” 2 mile (11:20.79), Andrea Keklak stepped back on the track for a sub 60 second split in the 4x400m as Lincoln-Sudbury ran away from Acton-Boxborough for an 11 second win and a state leading time of 4:01.56. Final meet score……Lincoln-Sudbury 48 points, Acton Boxborough 47 points!
Here are some other impressive performances from week #3:
Kathy O’Keefe (Newton South) – 2:55.19 in the 1000m and 11:45.61 in the 2 mile. Her 1000m time leads the nation.
Rebecca Robinson (Arlington) – Continues to dominate the 55m (7.28) and the 300m (39.57).
Marika Crowe (Lincoln-Sudbury) – 5:18.60 in the mile.
Dan Zawalich (Saint John’s) – 2:25.16 in the 1000m and 4:27.16 in the mile.
