The highly ranked Pembroke Boys (Titan TC) stamped their ticket to Portland with a second place finish and an impressive team time of 83:46. Ryan Kelley (9th place) and Wesley Gallagher (10th place) led the way for the Titans; both finishing in 16:23.
The performance of the day came from Steven Sollowin of Weymouth Youth TC (Weymouth H.S.) who was the top Massachusetts finisher in the Boys Championship Race. His time of 16:03.9 secured 4th place and a trip to the NXN Championships in Portland Oregon on December 4, 2010.
In the Girls Championship Race, Rocks XC (Bishop Feehan H.S.) capped off their impressive season by finishing 5th (100:09.5). Once again, Viviana Hanley (6th place overall) led the team with an impressive time of 18:53.1.
Brookline TC (Brookline H.S.) led the way for the Massachusetts schools in the Boys Championship Race with a 16th place finish (87:00.1), followed closely by Lowell XC Club (Lowell H.S.) in 17th place (87:27.1); 44 points back. The two changed places after the 2 mile mark when Lowell XC was leading Brookline TC by 6 points.
Massachusetts teams took the first two spots in the Boys Open Race. Rocks XC-B (Bishop Freehan H.S.) earned the win over Maudslay TC (Newburyport H.S.) by only 6 points. Maudslay had a huge third mile and surged up to second place after being 77 points down at the half way point. Rocks XC-B was second at the half way point but their gap of only 28 seconds was too much to overcome.
John Mantia (17:32; 5th place) of the Coyle XC Club (Coyle & Cassidy H.S.) was the top Massachusetts finisher in the Boys Open Race.
Coyle XC Club (Coyle & Cassidy H.S.) and Newton Centre Athletics (Newton South H.S.) were locked up in the middle of the pack in the Girls Open Race. Coyle XC Club came out on top by a single point to finish in 8th place, but, Newton Center Athletics actually had a faster team time by almost 2 minutes.
