We're still seven weeks away from the Massachusetts State Championships, but the state's top athletes have gotten an early start lighting up the track (or field). Let's take a look at some of the state's top performers after a couple weeks of action and see who is wasting no time setting themselves up for the postseason.

Massachusetts Meet Calendar

Sprint Events - Top Performers

Sean Blaze, Clinton - The state leader in both the 100m (10.57) and 200m dashes (21.97) established himself as the top short sprinter early this season en route to victories at the Clinton vs Bromfield Duel.

Seiji Friedman, Littleton - The senior leads the state in the 400m (51.16) and remains undefeated across sprint events this season, going 3-for-3 between the 200m and 400m. 

Lavender Kozaka, Oliver Ames - Kozaka holds the top times in the state in the 100m (12.10) and 200m dashes (25.45) following wins at the Trojan Invitational. She has emerged as one of the state's premier talents - she is undefeated in both short sprints, as well as the long jump. 

Annaliese Aguilar, Milton - The junior put together an impressive all-around showing at last week's tri-meet, winning both the 200m dash and 100m hurdles, the latter in which she set an early-season MA #1. She also finished second in the long jump, further highlighting her versatility in her first outdoor meet of the year.

Field Events - Top Performers

Nicholas Askjaer, Cohasset - The junior is the state leader in both the discus (171-6) and shot put (59-1) following a strong showing at the Arcadia Invitational, where he placed 6th in the shot put and 10th in the discus against some of the nation's best competition.

Ainsley Cuthbertson, Lexington - The senior was busy this indoor season, winning 9 shot put and 12 weight throw competitions. While she will be looking to defend her state title in the discus, she most recently finished 4th in the hammer throw at the Knights of Columbus Relays in Rhode Island, throwing a MA #1 164-6.
