Abigail Hennessey Wins Brooks XC Northeast Championship

Undefeated University of Washington bound senior Abigail Hennessey added another title to the list; she won the Brooks XC Northeast Championship by around 13 seconds, clocked at 16:47.3. The pack was tight early on before Hennessey pulled away with a strong second and third mile, averaging 5:24. 

This is the sixth victory of the season for Hennessey, which includes a MIAA 1A state title and MIAA Meet of Champions victory.

The Westford Academy star held off a strong field for the Regional Championship win. The defending XC Northeast Regional champion, Virginia Kraus, finished second at 17:01.1, and NJSIAA Meet of Champions winner Leah Starkey third with 17:02.6.

Keep an eye out for Abigail Hennessey when she competes at Balboa Park in San Diego, CA on December 13th for the Brooks XC National Championship.

Girls Northeast Championship Top 10 Finishers


More Massachusetts Highlights

While they didn't make the cut for advancement to the National Championship, there were two more MA girls in the top 15 championship finishers. Amelia Alvazzi ran 11th with a 17:44.7, and Evelin Pires 13th at 17:56.1.

The top boys finisher in the championship race from MA was Brody Richardson of Williston Northhampton HS in 12th, running 15:38.5; Greg McGrath of Boston College HS also ran to 15th, running 15:44.5.

Kai Kemeza finished second in the Freshmen Sophomore race, running 16:58.3. Inez Smith, Teagan Richards, and Hannah Levesque finished third through fifth in the girls' Freshmen Sophomore race. 

In the Junior Senior division, MA's Jesus Andrades and Anthony Beaudoin ran fourth and fifth for the boys. The girls' top MA finisher was Anna Cronin in seventh.
