During the next few weeks leading up to the beginning of the cross-country season, MileSplit MA will highlight some of our top returning runners this fall. We graduated some outstanding harriers from last year, but we still have an impressive list of talent coming back this season with hopes of making their marks on the dirt trails.
Lucas Aramburu, Brookline
Among returnees, you have to put Aramburu among the best coming back. The Warrior senior finished third at both the Eastern Massachusetts Division 1 meet and the All State Meet. In both races, he finished behind graduating seniors Tristan Shelgren (St. John's) and Andrew Mah (Newton North). The Brookline standout also excels on the track with bests of 4:21 for the mile, 9:23 for the deuce and 9:13 for 3,200m, an effort that placed him second at the New England Outdoor Meet his sophomore year in 2017. But it's on the trails where Aramburu has garnered his most success, including last fall. In addition to his top-3 finishes as the divisionals and All States, he also captured the season-opening Amherst Invitational and the Division 1 race at the McIntrye Twilight Invitational. Aramburu capped off his fall campaign by qualifying for the Foot Locker Nationals, taking third overall at the Foot Locker Northeast Regionals at historic Van Cortlandt Park.
