The Bay State has a trio of meets on the slate this weekend, with all three taking place on Saturday. The annual Coaches Invitational will have its girls' meet at Sharon High, while the boys will contest at Durfee High. In Andover, there's the always-competitive Andover Boosters Invitational. Just like this past weekend, expect some outstanding performances at these three meets.
In the boys' Coaches' meet, a loaded 200-meter race has five in the field that have clocked a time of 22.30 or faster. Milton's Smith Charles is entered in the long and triple jumps, two events he has a good possibility of establishing new meet records. He has seeds of 23-4.5 for the long jump and 46-0.25 for the triple. All-American distance ace Ryan Oosting of Arlington is scheduled to compete in the mile and two mile. Will he be shooting for fast efforts or focusing on a win and a good qualifying time for the upcoming state meets? We'll find that out this weekend. Speaking of distance events, the girls' meet will feature Grace Connolly of Natick, who is penciled in for the 800m and the mile. Those were two events she was originally scheduled to compete in at the Weston Twilight Invitational, but was a noticeable no-show. If she's on the track this Saturday, she'll be ready to roar. She owns best of 2:15 and 4:51 for the two events. Among other events, the 100m hurdles could be a down-to-the-wire affair with sub 15-second hurdlers Anoush Krafian and Sharon's Jada Johnson toeing the line.
