David Melville Announces He's A Harvard Man!

David Melville of Northern Guilford has announced his college commitment to Harvard!

Melville currently holds the second fastest time in the state of 15:03 this season.  Melville has also won 2 NCHSAA 3A XC State Championships and will look to capture his third this Saturday.   Last XC season Melville qualified for NXN after placing 3rd at the NXN Southeast Regional.  He went on to finish 63rd in the nation as a junior despite falling early in the race.

On the track  he's also captured two NCHSAA 3A Indoor 3200 state titles and one NCHSAA 3A Outdoor 3200 state title.  He holds PRs of 4:22 and 9:14 for the 1600 and 3200.

He'll be coached by Alex Gibby who joined to Harvard at the end of the summer.  Gibby was previously at UNC Charlotte, Michigan and William & Mary.

Melville had this to say about his recruitment, "I chose Harvard for their academic strength and the potential that I see in the cross country and track program. On my visit everyone seemed very positive and the team just seemed like the atmosphere that I was looking for in a college. Other schools that I considered include NC State and Princeton. Making the decision between State and Harvard was extremely tough. Both schools have incredible opportunities."
