Newburyport's Sam Acquaviva captured the Class A race at the Bay State Invitational.
This past weekend, Massachusetts athletes competed at a trio of quality meets, and the results were a number of performances worthy to be on this week's poll, so much that we had to split it up with a separate boy' and girls' poll.
In this poll, we feature the boys. Beginning with the Bay State Invitational in Wrentham, Saint John's proved its one of our leading contenders for a possible Division 1 state title by going 1-2-3 in the Class C race. The Pioneers were led by an individual victory from Joshua Rahn, who crossed the line in a 15:41.53 clocking. In Class A, Newburyport's Sam Acquaviva broke 16 minutes for the first time with a winning 15:44.88. Jack Yanko of Amherst-Pelham post a 10-second win in Class B where he was timed in 15:37.
At the Manhattan Invitational, St. John Prep's Tristan Shelgren continued his stellar season by finishing third overall in the Varsity D race where he ran 12:45.3 for 4K at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City. Finally at the Brown Invitational in R.I., Plymouth North's Nick McNamee was second overall in the Division 2 race where he was timed in 15:37.45 for the generous 5K layout.
Now we want your vote. Pick the one performance from above that you feel belongs at the top. Voting ends Oct. 21 at midnight.
