St. John's conquered the challenging 5K terrain of Bowdoin Park with authority on Saturday.
With all five of their scoring runners among the first 24 placements, the Pioneers captured the Division 2 race of the Bowdoin X-C Classic in Wappinger Falls, N.Y., by a convincing 53-104 victory over runner-up Smithown.
William Hare of Princeton (NJ) won the individual title, breaking the tape in 16 minutes, 25.30 seconds. St. John's Joshua Rahn was second in 16:36.90. Teammates Patrick Craemer (fourth, 16:52.60) and Joe Walsh (sixth, 16:57.30) also cracked the top 10.
St. John's average time of 17:06 would have placed it fourth overall in the heavily-contested Division 1 race, captured by national powerhouse Christian Brothers Academy (NJ).
